Serial Number Validation

Overview

A serial number is a unique identifier assigned to a product or device. It is used to distinguish and track individual items within a larger set or inventory. Serial numbers are typically alphanumeric codes that are assigned by the manufacturer and they are usually found on various items such as electronics (e.g., smartphones, computers), appliances, and more. Serial Number validation in Skublox helps you improve efficiency and mitigate mistakes or human errors in your sorting operations. Learn more about serial numbers and their initial configuration here.

Enable Serial Number Validation

To have the system require Serial numbers when sorting:

  1. Navigate to the Skublox Hub portal at https://xx.hub.skublox.com (replace “xx” with your team name) or open the Skublox Hub app.
  2. Enter your login credentials.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Enable Require serial number when sorting. The sub-setting Using relaxed serial numbers in Sellercloud is used to configure the serial number validation mode.
    1. Relaxed; or
    2. Strict

Learn more about each mode below.

The sorting slot light in Skublox is specifically designed to provide visual cues and indicate when a scanned product requires a serial number. It alternates between the colors white and the unique color of the sorter. To successfully complete the sort, you must scan the serial number and sorter barcode.
When Skublox products require a serial number, no form of multi-sorting is allowed. Regardless of multi-sorting preferences, the units must be scanned one by one.

Refer to the table below for a detailed definition of each setting.

Setting Definition
Enable Serial Number Validation Client setting. Controls the validation process within the Skustack Admin. It checks whether the serial numbers of the units match the ones assigned to them when they were received through a Purchase Order. The serial number validation mode* is determined based on the value of this setting. Learn more about serial number validation and relevant client settings here.
Require serial number when sorting Skublox Preferences setting. Enabling this setting will force serial scans to sort units. Disable this setting to allow sorting without serial scan.
*Using relaxed serial numbers in Sellercloud Skublox Preferences setting. There are two modes for working with serial numbers: Strict and Relaxed. A serial number validation between PO and order serials will be used when Strict mode is enabled. On the other hand, Relaxed mode allows serial input for orders during sorting operations without requiring previous records of these serials.
